Basic Nursing Assistant Training
Overall objectives for the Basic Nurse Assistant Training Program are designed to meet the level of skills & knowledge that will allow the student to achieve State of Illinois Certification status as a Nursing Assistant. This program is meant to provide a strong foundation and preparation for continued academic pursuit. Following Federal and Illinois State law, this course is open to anyone 16 years of age or older and a High School diploma is not required. Some students take this course to be a career CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) while a great percentage of others are attending in order to meet prerequisites to get into a nursing program at a community college or university. To become a CNA and transfer to the college of the student’s choice, the student must first complete the course with a passing grade and pass the Illinois State Competency Exam.
Professional Medical Coding Program
The PMCC course is fast-paced and intensive. Completion of a Medical Terminology course is required prior to admission to the Program. Students must pass the American Association of Professional Coders (AAPC) CPC exam for certification. The AAPC requires at least two years of experience in medical coding, completion of a medical terminology course, and two letters of recommendation to take the certification exam. Successful completion of the PMCC course qualifies as one of the two years of coding experience required. Students who complete the program without experience may take the CPC exam with designation as “Apprentice”.
Medical Terminology Course
This course is open to those who are fluent in English and can pass the School's reading test. A high school Diploma or GED is not required.
Restorative Nursing Assistant
The Restorative Nursing Assistant course is open to any Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Developmental Disabilities Aide (DDA) who wishes to be more involved with therapy programs for their Residents. This course is a combination of Physical Rehabilitation Aide and Occupational Rehabilitation Aide.
Phlebotomy Technician Specialist
Students entering this course must be over 18 years of age and pass a reading comprehension test. The student will learn how to safely take quality blood specimens from patients. A national certification exam is available and the student must provide proof of a High School Diploma or GED to take this exam.
